Gulf Coast Commercial Group’s 24-acre Lower Heights District, located just west of downtown Houston, will soon be home to the first Flat Top Grill outside of the Midwest. The Asian Fusion stir fry restaurant, which first launched in Chicago in 1995, combines full-service dining and bar with an interactive, create-your-own bowl experience. The brand serves as an innovation lab for Dallas-based parent company Mongolian Concepts Restaurant Group, the nation’s largest create your own bowl concept group, which also operates Genghis Grill and bd’s Mongolian Grill.
Slated for a December 2022 debut, the 2,208-square-foot Flat Top Grill will be situated in the development’s recently completed second phase. Fronting Interstate 10 between Studemont and Sawyer streets, Lower Heights District welcomed the first Texas site of El Dorado Hills, CA-based fast casual concept World of Sourdough earlier this year.
Flat Top Grill was represented by Jim Pappas. Gulf Coast Commercial Group, an established, Houston-based firm specializing in retail development, management and leasing, was represented by the company’s Vice President of Leasing Danny Miller along with Brett Levinson and Anderson Smith of Main Street Commercial Partners.
According to Miller, “We’re excited to continue expanding the mix of premium dining, retail and service offerings at Lower Heights District, which is ideally positioned to serve businesses and residents in and along the adjacent First Ward Arts District, Washington Corridor and The Heights, which is linked to the project via a hike and bike trail extension.’
Guests are invited to eat adventurously, choosing from over 80 fresh ingredients, including hand-cut vegetables, bold scratch-made sauces, premium meats and seafood, plus signature spices, to craft their own experience or opt to order composed bowls, poke and ramen right from the table or online. Entrees are perfectly paired with delicious desserts and exotic signature cocktails. The restaurant also caters to various flavor preferences and lifestyles by offering keto, gluten-free, low-carb, vegan and vegetarian options.
In recent years, Flat Top Grill has put a focus on brand reimaging, heightened customer service, improved food quality and even more operational excellence as a way to continue to refine the customer experience. Today, the brand has five locations open in the Chicagoland and Indiana.
Founded in 1999, Gulf Coast Commercial Group and its affiliates have overseen the development of more than eight million square feet of retail space in twelve states. While traditionally focused on suburban-style endeavors in Houston, the company is enhancing its portfolio with urban infill projects that in addition to Lower Heights include Block 14 at Garden Oaks and The Common at Pinemont.
