LAFAYETTE, LA – December 6, 2022 – Taqueria El Mexicano, the homegrown culinary brand that first introduced the authentic flavors of Mexico City and the Puebla region to Lafayette as a food truck in 2019, is again growing its local footprint. Following the successful launch of a first brick and mortar restaurant at 110 Mimosa Place last year, business partners Rob Caruso and Chef Benjamin Briones, a Mexico native, have just unveiled a second location in the bustling Ambassador Row retail and restaurant complex at the intersection of Ambassador Caffrey Parkway and Johnston Boulevard.

While the duo just leased the 3,280-square-foot site last month, the second-generation restaurant space allowed for an expedited renovation timeline without sacrificing elements like custom art work.

According to Leasing Associate Crady Newton, who managed the transaction on behalf of Gulf Coast Commercial Group, “We are thrilled to add Taqueria El Mexicano to the tenant mix at the Ambassador Row/Ambassador Courtyards retail cluster. It’s a high traffic site that is sure to make even more fans of the restaurant’s flavorful, scratch made menu.”

The new location doubles the occupancy of Taqueria El Mexicano’s Mimosa Place counterpart with seating for 100 indoors, plus additional capacity on a small terrace. The full-service cantina showcases a signature cocktail program – equally focused on capturing the spirit and tastes of Mexico – created by Caruso, a former bar owner. Highlights include an array of margaritas, in addition to mules and micheladas.

Savory menu features range from Steak Mexicano – a T-bone marinated in zesty imported spices – and incredible taco selection to Alambre – a traditional Mexican dish similar to fajitas – tortas, quesadillas a Mexican burger and hearty dinner plates. The restaurant has introduced many diners to nose-to-tail cooking, which results in a number of unique proteins while minimizing food waste.

Guests are encouraged to leave room for dessert with deliciously sweet finishes including tres leches and churro bread pudding.

Taqueria El Mexicano joins a variety of tenants within the 350,000 square foot Ambassador complex including Skechers, Bed Bath & Beyond, Cost Plus World Market, Jo-Ann, Big Lots and Planet Fitness.
